Classroom Materials
We provide teachers with a Teacher Resource Guide that includes 10 weeks of enrichment activities and materials, which provide teachers with opportunities to teach language arts, social studies, math, financial literacy and civics in an engaging way.
Academics even a child can love
What better way to teach weights and measures than by asking children to weigh the coins they'll donate to their chosen non-profit? What better way to teach the importance about voting than to have children vote on how they'll help the community with the coins they've worked to raise? What better way to teach persuasive writing than to have children write others to ask them to help support their favorite cause? Our program is effective, because children apply academics while working on a project they love. We offer enrichment activities for grades 3-5 and grades K-2.

Our enrichment activities and materials are intended to complement lessons already being taught in the classroom. They are an optional addition to regular classroom instruction.
Raising awareness about issues affecting the community Classroom discussions begin with our Issues Chart. Children may choose to support any issue on the chart affecting Kids, the Planet or Animals.
Issues Chart
Issues Pages explain the 23 issues on our Issues Chart in simple language. Intended for grades 2 through 5, each Issue Page describes an issue, its importance, provides facts about the issue and how children can help. Please see our list of available Issues Pages and our sample pages below.

Neighborhood Letters At Good Cents for Oakland we believe that it's important that children learn to talk to others about issues they care about. Our optional Neighborhood Letter template gives children a tool for starting conversations. Children participating in the Penny Roundup Program may distribute Neighborhood Letters to friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses to help raise money for their chosen non-profit organization. Older children are welcome to write their own letters.
